Holmes High School has partnerships with multiple post-secondary institutions to offer a variety of Dual Credit Courses to high school students. A dual credit course is a college level course students take while in high school and they earn both high school and college credit hours. Students successfully passing a dual credit course with a C or better automatically earn college credit. These courses could be taught in person with a high school faculty, in person with a college professor, or virtually with a college professor.
Outlined below are the college partnerships Holmes High School currently has agreements with.
Northern Kentucky University–School Based Scholars Program
Seniors at HHS have the opportunity to complete English 101 and English 102 at Holmes High School. Our current instructor has adjunct faculty status with Northern Kentucky University. Students successfully completing ENG 101 and ENG 102 with a C or better will earn 6 college credit hours from NKU. Admission requirement of a 3.0 unweighted GPA for these courses.
Northern Kentucky University–Young Scholars Academy
This is a two year cohort beginning the junior year of high school. Students participating in this program take all their courses through Northern Kentucky
University. Students are still allowed to participate in extracurricular activities at HHS, but all schooling is completed through the partnering university. Students take a minimum of 12 college credit hours per semester. Admission requirements of a 3.0 unweighted GPA and a College Math Readiness Benchmark score of 23 from the KYOTE. Determination, acceptance, and admission take place during a students’ sophomore year of high school. Students within this program are working toward two full years of college completion upon high school graduation and some earn an Associate’s Degree upon completion.
Bluegrass Community & Technical College–HHS Teachers
Students enrolled in the construction technology or graphic design classes at Holmes High School have the opportunity to earn college credit for their courses. Our current instructors have adjunct faculty status with Bluegrass Community & Technical College. Students successfully completing these courses with a C or better will earn college credit from Bluegrass. Admission requirement of a 2.0 unweighted GPA for these courses.
Gateway Community & Technical College–HHS Teachers
Students enrolled in the health sciences classes at Holmes High School have the opportunity to earn college credit for their Medical Terminology course. Our current instructor has adjunct faculty status with Gateway Community & Technical College. Students successfully completing AHS 115 with a C or better will earn 3 college credit hours from Gateway. Admission requirement of a 2.0 unweighted GPA for this course.
Gateway Community & Technical College–College Professors
Students enrolled in this program will complete college classes with college professors. Course options are based upon seat availability. Course selection is based upon admission requirements and communication with students for proper alignment for post-secondary plans. These courses could be offered
online or in person. Admission requirements for General Education Courses is an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or ACT Benchmark Scores; admission requirements for Career & Technical Education Courses is an unweighted GPA of 2.0 or ACT Benchmark Scores.
