LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP LIST

ATTENTION SENIORS: Below is a list of local scholarships that are offered only to Holmes High School graduating seniors. Please read the description of each award to see if you meet the eligibility requirements. The application will be used for each scholarship you check - with the exception of scholarships noted or listed below.  Please submit one teacher recommendation with your application and any other requirements.

Adams, Stepner, Woltermann and Dusing, PLLC ($1000) – This scholarship is designed to help a Holmes High School senior who is interested in attending an institution of higher education.  We value education as a vital foundation for creating fulfilling, advantageous careers.  We are proud and excited to help students reach their goals of furthering their education.  A 500 to 750 word essay is required.  Please see the ASWD scholarship sheet on the website for further details.

Clinton Harvey Gardiner Scholarship ($1000) – A senior who is a member of the National Honor Society whose grades and extra-curricular activities demonstrate broad intellectual capabilities, strong leadership potential and sincere interest in school and community involvement.

Harry and Sarah Mitchell Scholarship ($2000) – Student must have a 3.0 GPA in mathematics or science courses, must be of good moral character and display good citizenship qualities. Harry Mitchell was a principal and assistant superintendent for Covington Independent Public Schools. Two scholarships will be awarded.

Herb and Chris Tudor Scholarship ($800) – Awarded to any senior for scholastic excellence, attendance and exemplary citizenship and leadership qualities as displayed in school, church and community.

Ron Sargent Foundation Scholarship ($2000.00) – Any senior who will attend college out of state. Considerations: high academic achievement, character, and motivation to succeed.

The Woodrow Lane Scholarship ($1500)The student awarded this scholarship will have demonstrated strong moral character, service to others, and leadership potential.  The student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. It is intended to support a student who will attend an accredited university or college to pursue a degree in science, technology, engineering or math.

Don Conrad Scholarship (Amount Varies) is awarded to deserving Holmes High School students in pursuit of a higher education. The winning students will demonstrate broad intellectual capabilities and a sincere interest in enhancing personal educational growth through the attainment of a college degree and have a financial need. This is for those attending school in Kentucky. It is a renewable scholarship and two will be awarded.

Jack Moreland Scholarship ($1000) – This scholarship is for a graduating senior who is attending a post-secondary institution in Kentucky and will major in education or chemistry, have a financial need, and submit a 150-200 word essay. Please see essay requirements for essay topic.

Covington Professional Firefighters Scholarship ($500) ($1000) – These scholarships are for graduating seniors who are attending post-secondary institutions and who have a financial need. Must submit a 150-200 word essay describing the importance of firefighters to our community.

Covington Education Foundation (TBD-renewable) – Scholarship for graduating senior attending an accredited post-secondary institution on a full time basis and have financial need. The student must show the potential for success in college. Submit a 200 word essay. Please see essay requirements for essay topic.

Vogt Family Scholarship (amount varies) – This scholarship is for a graduating senior attending an accredited post-secondary institution on a full time basis outside of the greater Cincinnati area. Have financial need and show potential for success in college. Essay is required, please see essay requirements for essay topic.

Virginia Chapman Scholarship (Amount varies) – Any senior who exemplifies the Holmes spirit, community service and academic promise. 

Chuck and Julie Geisen Scheper Scholarship ($1000 - renewable) - This scholarship will be based on teacher/staff recommendation and awarded to a student with financial need and the skills for success.

The Shelly Duncan Memorial Scholarship (TBD) -This scholarship will be awarded to a student who exhibits the kindness that Mrs. Duncan was known for and has a financial need.  Students will be nominated by staff.  

The Fred Waddell Pathway to UK Scholarship – ($1000.00 renewable) – This scholarship is focused on supporting students who want to use the college experience to expand their horizons and find ways to make a difference in the world.  Submit a 150 – 200 word essay.  Please see essay requirements.

DeWitt Monroe Baulch Science Scholarship – ($1000.00) – The graduating senior must have maintained a 3.0 or higher G.P.A. and be exceptional in math and science.  It will be awarded to a student who plans to pursue a career in Physical Science (physics, chemistry, astronomy, meteorology or geology).  Submit a 250-300 word essay.  Please see essay requirements.

OUTSIDE SCHOLARSHIP LIST

ATTENTION SENIORS: Below is a list of scholarships that are offered to High School graduating seniors. Please read the description of each to see if you meet the eligibility requirements.

Covington FOP Lodge #1 Fallen Officer Scholarship - ($500) - Must be a high school senior and a resident of Covington, or a child of a current Fraternal Order of Police member or FOPA member.  Fill out application and essay required.  Essay should be 400-700 words long, original and previously unpublished and on the topic of "What does living in Covington mean to me?"

Lincoln/William Grant Legacy Scholarship Award - ($1000) - This scholarship is for generational descendants of affiliates of the former Lincoln-Grant or Willliam Grant High School in Covington, Ky. Two $1000 scholarships are available.  Click here for application.

Dr. Nancy C. Riley Walton Memorial Scholarship ($1000) -  For any qualifying graduating senior or undergraduate college student. No family relationship to former affiliates of the former Lincoln-Grant or William Grant High School is required for this scholarship award.) Two $1,000 scholarship awards are available.  Click here for application.

 

The Wallace Woods Neighborhood Association ($500) - This scholarship is based on good citizenship & community service.  Seniors must reside in Covington, KY, performed voluntary community service and be enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited two year to four year post-secondary educational instituation.  Essay is required, please see essay requirements for essay topic.
