Covington Schools broke ground on the new Holmes High School softball field on Tuesday. The ceremony was moved inside due to the weather forecast and wet ground. Those
in attendance enjoyed peanuts and Cracker Jacks as they heard from Superintendent Alvin Garrison, Board Vice-Chair Stephen Gastright, Holmes Athletic Director Ken Ellis, Holmes Principal Ben Brown, Softball Head Coach Dan Curtis, Softball players Julia Starr and Carlie Riley, TEAM Foundation member Joyce Murphy, and Covington Mayor Ron Washington.
The $3.4 million project will replace the current field at Glenn O. Swing Elementary School. The new field will feature a turf playing surface, new lighting and deluxe dugouts and bathrooms. It should be completed before the 2026 softball season begins.
